Listen to RetroSynth Records’ massive 94-track ‘Ladies of Synth’ comp

If you spent New Year’s Eve at the OVERDRIVE party at ZuZu in Cambridge, you’ve entered 2018 with a full understanding that the year ahead is going to be a big one for synth.

Electronic synth music — retrowave, electro-pop, synthwave, outrun, dreamwave, and everything under the hot pink sun — is proving to be more than just the soundtrack to Drive, and now Maine-based label RetroSynth Records’ is here to give the entire sound a turbo boost with its two-volume, 94-track Ladies of Synth compilation.

Both comps are available to stream and download via RetroSynth’s Bandcamp page. And there’s just so much goodness here to swim through, starting off with a delectable exclusive track from Roxi Drive & Neon Black titled “All Night Long” that sets a proper tone.

From there, the journey weaves through the worlds of dozens of artists refreshing a vibrant sound with their own splashes of neon, including standout jams from LGHTNNG, Parallels, and Highway Superstar. But there are a lot of artists we’ve never heard before, and that’s really exciting.

“This has been a long time coming, there are many females in synth music that need their voices and productions to be heard, and on this compilation they are front and center for the first time ever!” writes compilation organizer and RetroSynth founder Scott Forte on Bandcamp. “RetroSynth Records is proud to bring you the first ever synth compilation devoted to female vocalists and producers, Ladies of Synth! I spent the past month trying to assemble the best tracks I could find for this and I am truly pleased with the end result.”

Forte adds: “This first Volume starts out with lots of awesome synth-pop & synthwave tracks, and then moves later into amazing italo disco, and then later into faster outrun, some darker tracks and electronic rock tracks. It closes out on a slower darker pace which also continues into Volume 2.”

Start the New Year in the fast lane.
