Studio 52 Spotlight: Hayley Thompson-King

Though one might not think Boston would harbor many country acts, we indeed have a flourishing country scene. One of the top artists within this realm who calls Boston home is none other than the incomparable Hayley Thompson-King. The singer/guitarist released her debut full-length album at the top of this month titled Psychotic Melancholia, and her self-defined psychedelic country in effect is nothing short of extraordinary. Her giant vocals embody the spirit of country music, and the slick toe-tapping music she provides (along with her wonderful band) is as tight as it gets. It’s no surpise to us that Thompson-King is up for Country Artist of the Year at this year’s Boston Music Awards. Even better, you can catch her live this evening on the rooftop of the Verb Hotel as part of the BMAs’ “Reverb from the Roof” series with former Featured Band Salem Wolves. With our city as the perfect backdrop, the show starts at 5 p.m. (note that early start) and it’s free with an RSVP. We can’t think of a better way to kick off the fall. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
