Now Yous Can’t Leave: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark announce North American tour

Back in 2010, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark returned to our turntables with spectacular comeback album History of Modern, their first new record in 14 years and immediate reassurance that OMD 2.0 wasn’t going to be a nostalgic money grab. Seven years later and now three albums in, Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys appear to be as fit a unit as ever, and this month’s The Punishment of Luxury serves as another master class from one of the true pioneers of synth-pop.

“On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns,” says McCluskey in a press release. “The trouble is, we just can’t help but write a catchy melody!”

That’s the truth, and one that has resided within OMD since their remarkable ’80s era, highlighted by electronic music classics like “If You Leave” and Electricity.” To celebrate the new record, OMD head out on a 27-date North American tour next winter and spring, and it touches down at Boston’s House of Blues on March 9. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

For those not properly caught up the new dazzle of OMD, catch up with two of The Punishment of Luxury’s tracks before as you scan through their full tour itinerary.
