Editor’s Note: Another rousing edition of Newport Folk Festival is in the books, and as usual, the three-day weekend at Fort Adams State Park (July 28, 29, and 30) was full of talent and surprises. If you caught any of our teases on social, you caught a glimpse of the festivities; Matthew Shelter was under the sun and along the harbor snapping visuals within one of the most scenic fests in the world. But as usual, the attention was locked on its various stages. On a weekend led by performances from Mr. John Prine, Roger Waters, Regina Spektor, Avett Brothers, Chicano Batman, Jim James, Angel Olsen, and more, Shelter’s highlights included The Speak Out set (“one of the best 60 minutes of music I’ve seen in a long time”) where Kyle Craft covered David Bowie; highway queen Nikki Lane; Avett Brothers (who “brought their A game”); and the vest worn by Seratones’ Adam Davis, a piece of clothing that attended Woodstock ’69. It was that kind of weekend. Scan through his full gallery for Vanyaland below, with performers noted in the captions.
