Look, we’re easy. Here at Vanyaland, we like cool tunes, great bands, and anything involving Brian Viglione. The one-time Bostonian, drummer extraordinaire, and Dresden Dolls co-founder has spent the past few years playing with a host of impressive names (Violent Femmes, Nine Inch Nails, Jesse Malin), and tonight returns to town with a new band, fronted by powerhouse singer and pianist Olya Viglione.
They’re called Scarlet Sails, there’s a real magnetic noir-pop intrigue to their sound, and they play ONCE Ballroom in Somerville tonight (May 4) alongside Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys and Radiator King.
Back in March, Scarlet Sails released a video for latest single “Boy You’re Wrong” — their debut album, April’s Future From The Past, raised $27,000 in funding on Kickstarter — and the clip finds the husband and wife duo battling in a mock interrogation. The visuals and sound are right in Mr. Viglione’s wheelhouse, but Olya is no mere doll part — read her fascinating Psychology Today profile about her journey from Moscow to America and how she established herself in New York City’s crazy music scene.
After tonight, they’ll wrap up their tour with shows in Portland and a rando town in Connecticut. Check them out and get lost in the video below.
