Professional-quality recording app made for musicians. Available now from the App Store.

Oh man, South-By-Southwest is almost here.

Ten days of crazy parties, taco trucks, tech talks, a Vanyaland party, music showcases from every label under the sun, and -- perhaps most importantly in 2017 -- a crazy good film festival, full of world premieres from the biggest studios and esoteric delights from all over the globe in every genre.

We’re super excited to be covering the festival in an expanded role this year, and before we head down to the great city of Austin, we’ve picked a selection of five films from a gargantuan list that stand out to us the most as must-sees. We're excluding SXSW opening night film Song to Song, which we’ve already covered.

For screening times and other information on these five films and everything else showing at SXSW 2017, click here. As we count down the days, let’s get it started, y’all.

American Gods

This Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s bestselling novel will be premiering its first episode at the festival, and we’re absolutely stoked to see what this one looks like. A convict named Shadow is released from prison unexpectedly when his wife dies, and soon after he’s approached by a man named Wednesday who wants him to be his bodyguard. Of course, Wednesday’s actually the Norse God Odin, and they soon embark on a trip across the U.S. to resurrect the rest of the Old Gods for a showdown with the new. It’s got some serious talent behind the camera, with Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller producing, and some interesting faces in front of it, with Deadwood’s Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday and Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy. It looks to be one of the most faithful and interesting adaptations of Gaiman’s work, and who knows? It might be a dry run for a Sandman series later on.
