Year In ReView: 16 of our most favorite Providence songs of 2016

This year marked one of immense growth for the Providence music scene. New faces made their presence felt and even a new venue in Alchemy opened up to become a huge part of an already burgeoning community. Veterans staked their claim and the newbies became established while a bunch of others are well on their way to making a name for themselves. For any community to thrive, there has to be a steady influx of young people getting involved. Thankfully that is happening in Providence when it comes to local music and people are welcoming it with open arms. There's a sense of artistic excitement in the Creative Capital these days; individuals who have been involved in the music community for years are getting more and more great people involved. Shows consisting of all local bands are packing venues in every neighborhood. It's inspiring to witness and there's a lot to be positive about when it comes to the bands that call this place home. With all of this being said, here are 16 of our favorite songs to come out of Providence this year.

Tall Teenagers, “Anniversary”

The initial idea of Tall Teenagers started with guitarists Damian Puerini and Chelsea Paulhus started writing children’s songs but they decided to switch things up a bit due to the lyrical content. After incorporating Puerini’s wife Shannon on bass and Shaun Chevalier on drums, the quartet put out one of the best local albums of the year with the release of their self-titled debut in April. “Anniversary” off of the record is dark and groovy with Puerini’s twang and the thunderous chorus making an impression. The band’s sound is a musical lovechild of Pixies and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. 2016 was a big year for the band and if they keep on putting out stuff like this, Providence music fanatics have a lot to look forward to.
