Year In ReView: 16 of our most favorite Providence songs of 2016

This year marked one of immense growth for the Providence music scene. New faces made their presence felt and even a new venue in Alchemy opened up to become a huge part of an already burgeoning community. Veterans staked their claim and the newbies became established while a bunch of others are well on their way to making a name for themselves. For any community to thrive, there has to be a steady influx of young people getting involved. Thankfully that is happening in Providence when it comes to local music and people are welcoming it with open arms. There's a sense of artistic excitement in the Creative Capital these days; individuals who have been involved in the music community for years are getting more and more great people involved. Shows consisting of all local bands are packing venues in every neighborhood. It's inspiring to witness and there's a lot to be positive about when it comes to the bands that call this place home. With all of this being said, here are 16 of our favorite songs to come out of Providence this year.

Sire, “Dead In The Eyes Of God”

Metal definitely made its presence felt in Providence this year. Venues like Dusk, Firehouse 13, and AS220 consistently put on shows full of gargantuan shredding and wall demolishing loudness. On the local level, one metal band that rose to new heights in 2016 was Sire. The death/black metal act released a few teaser tracks on Halloween ahead of next year’s release of their debut album Evocation Of The Serpent and “Dead In The Eyes Of God” straight up rips. It’s everything you’d want in a magnificent metal anthem while giving the ears so much more.
