By now, we've all proudly worn ugly holiday sweaters showing off beloved musical icons, from Morrissey on a sled to David Bowie at the piano. But what about your Christmas tree? Is your Christmas tree appropriately alternative?
Thanks to some fantastic rubber die cut bendable ornaments from designer Matthew Lineham, it can be. Titled "A Very New Wave Christmas," Lineham's 10-piece set features incredibly festive renderings of Nick Cave, Adam Ant, Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Devo, Danny Elfman (ha!), Klaus Nomi, and and of course, the Duke and a double shot of Moz.
It's immediately a must have for any proper modern rock fan. And what's even better is that Lineham has worked the icons into familiar holiday personalities or themes.
From Dangerous Minds, who tipped us off to this greatness: "Many of his 'obscure' references involve network Christmas programming from many decades ago. Siouxsie Sioux is transformed into Cindy Lou Who, the little girl from Whoville in Dr. Seuss’ classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Morrissey plays the part of 'Snow Mozzer' and 'Heat Mozzer,' the memorable characters from the 1974 stop-motion animated Christmas TV special from Rankin/Bass, The Year Without a Santa Claus. Former Oingo Boingo frontman and soundtrack maestro Danny Elfman appears as 'Elfman on the Shelfman,' a reference to the 2004 children’s book The Elf on the Shelf. Robert Smith is perched atop Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and DEVO‘s familiar energy dome is cleverly done up as a Christmas tree."
The items are priced at $10 each (Moz costs $15 for the pair), or $50 for the entire set, but be warned: Due to obvious demand here, Lineham tells Dangerous Minds that anyone who buys as early as today will get their items shipped “sometime between December 21 & 31.” So they may not arrive in time for Santa's visit.
