Single Premiere: Brooklyn’s the Shacks deliver vintage orchestral pop on ‘Audrey Hepburn’

It’s a unique feeling when great music has the ability to take you to another place. The senses shift to a state of bliss while the mental visuals that naturally pop are nearly euphoric. The Shacks, an up-and-coming dream-pop duo from Brooklyn, possess the ability to transport us to such a state, and today Vanyaland drift back into a beautiful haze as we premiere the band’s new single, “Audrey Hepburn.”

Off their upcoming self titled EP that’s due out on October 28 via Big Crown Records (pre-order it here), “Audrey Hepburn” gets orchestral with subtle jazz tones at first. The rhythms get upped to due the drums coming in before alternating with the slight sophistications provided by the duo of Shannon Wise and Max Shrager.

“I wrote ‘Audrey Hepburn’ about staying over at Shannon’s apartment,” Shrager says. “I stayed there all the time when we were in high school, and practically became part of her family.”

It’s a testament to how music can bring people together and how something wonderful can come of it.

The Shacks don’t have any shows announced for the imminent future but let’s hope they venture through New England after their debut EP surfaces in a few weeks. Until Wise and Shrager come through your friendly neighborhood music venue, give a listen to “Audrey Hepburn” below.
