Selected Ambient Youth: Aphex Twin release first music video in 17 years, and it’s directed by a kid

When we got word electronic mastermind Richard D. James had let a 12-year-old from Ireland direct the first Aphex Twin video in 17 years, it felt like an obvious troll. Not only isn’t it a troll, it’s absolutely brilliant on every level.

James discovered Rush County, Dublin resident Ryan Wyer’s work through his YouTube channel epic1:40d Gaming, where he does typical kid shit like put Mentos in a two liter of cola to see what happens or plays with computer effects to make clips with titles like  “Children Hypnotized by Satan.”

He’s also set a bunch of mini-films to Aphex Twin tracks, which caught the eye of James and led to him commission the lad to make video for “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ]” from the upcoming Cheetah EP, out July 8 on Warp Records

The video itself is madness; Wyer leads fellow youth clad in Aphex Twin shirts through slapdash choreography on a Dublin street, flits about in some stonewall ruins and shows himself at a mixer. A good portion of the time he’s wearing a paper mask of James’ face, which is always creepy as hell.

Oh, and the song is mad decent too. Check it out below.
