Everything You Want: Vertical Horizon, Michael Franti, Young Wild added to Outside The Box

Next month’s Outside The Box Music & Arts Festival continues to be an impressive display of both the awesome and truly baffling.

The homegrown music lineup, released two weeks ago, remains noteworthy, with performances by Bearstronaut, Latrell James, Dutch ReBelle, Ruby Rose Fox, Creaturos, and more, enhanced by efforts by local non-profit organization the Record Company. The headliners, however, continue to leave a bit to be desired, as now joining the likes of Smash Mouth and Daughtry are Vertical Horizon — known for their 1999 pop-rock hit “Everything You Want” — as well as Michael Franti & Spearhead and The Young Wild.

The week-long, free, and all ages Outside The Box festival goes down on Boston Common July 13 to 17.

Vertical Horizon will open for Smash Mouth on Thursday, July 14, while Daughtry will play Friday, July 15. Saturday features a “drum-off” from the Blue Man Group, followed by a 92.5 The River-presented concert featuring The Young Wild, The Wild Feathers, The Record Company (not the Boston organization mentioned above, but a rock band from Los Angeles), and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

“We’re very pleased to have 92.5 The River help us present Saturday’s Capital One Mainstage artists,” says OTB Executive Director Susan Shields Darian in a press release. “Having partners like Capital One, 92.5 The River and so many others help further Ted Cutler’s vision of a sustainable and vibrant artistic community in Boston.”

There will also be stages and performances featuring dance, theatre, ballet, puppet shows, and other arts, with more than 100 names taking part all week.

“Outside The Box is a wonderful opportunity for artists and audiences to share creative experiences,” says Artistic Director Georgia Lyman in the same release. “The 2016 performances range from spectacle to intimate. They’re immersive, interactive and represent the diverse talent that Boston has to offer.”
