Speedy Ortiz’ fantastic 2015 album Foil Deer was one of the best releases of last year, and this week we have learned that its recording sessions are still providing excellent new material. The Carpark Records-issued LP turned a year old back in April, and now has companion EP in Foiled Again, a four-track effort set for release June 3.
Foiled Again features two new songs from the Foil Deer sessions, including the fairly incredible “Death Note” and “Emma O”, plus two remixes of “Puffer”: one from Doomtree’s Lazerbeak featuring Sadie Dupuis collaborator Lizzo and another from Open Mike Eagle.
Writes Dupuis in a press release: “‘Death Note’ is named after the anime, which is about an evil supernatural notebook that causes the death of anyone whose name is written inside of it. The song is about writing through your depression as a way to get better, and how in that way a death note can be kind of love letter to yourself.”
