Radio, Vibe Transmission: London bar lets you play records on Martin Hannett’s soundsystem

Imagine hearing classic Joy Division or New Order records on Martin Hannett's old '70s-era Tannoy Gold soundsystem.

That's part of the pitch of a new London bar from Behind The Wall, which allows you to play vinyl on the legendary producer's own turntable and stereo. Hannett, the meticulous and sound-obsessed Factory Records producer who died in 1991, has been called “The Mad Genius of Manchester” and the "Architect of the Manchester Sound", and worked closely with Joy Division and a host of other UK punk, post-punk, and rock bands -- the Stone Roses, U2, Buzzcocks, Psychedelic Furs, Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio, Magazine, etc. -- in the late-'70s and '80s.

More from the Vinyl Factory, via Fact Mag:

"Following on from its summer terrace residency at Oval Space, Behind This Wall has opened a bar in Hackney with a Joy Division-approved sound-system.

The spot, which was previously a luminous pink Turkish Social club, took six months to design and build. The team have installed Martin Hannett’s glorious 1970s Tannoy Gold sound-system, a rotary mixer and a Technics turntable. Sometimes one is all you need."

Behind This Wall is located at 411 Mare St. in London's Hackney neighborhood.
