Peak Boston: House of Pain just announced a St. Patrick’s Day show at Royale

Move over Dropkick Murphys — there’s a new way to go heavy on the Bostoning this St. Patrick’s Day. And it involves some vintage Larry Bird jerseys, Royale, and a whole lot of jumping around.

New York hip-hop trio House of Pain just announced that they’ll be playing the Theatre District nightclub on Thursday, March 17, which takes this Boston holiday to greater, even more drunken heights. Denis Leary called it back in the early ’90s when he introduced the “Shamrocks and Shenanigans” music video. He said something about St. Patrick Day, and even though it was nearly 25 years ago, he was probably predicting this modern life in 2016 that confounds and perplexes.

But House of Pain on St. Patrick’s Day? They might have to close Tremont Street down for this, and it’ll give both Southie and the Dropkicks at the House of Blues a run for most faux-Irishing going on around town.

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 12 at noon via Bowery Boston and Ticketmaster, and are priced at $29.50 in advance, and $32 day of show. The St. Patrick’s Day gig promises the classic House of Pain lineup of Everlast, DJ Lethal, and Danny Boy, and while the group is best known for 1992 single “Jump Around”, we maintain that later track “On Point” still holds up just as well.

Go green, go big.
