Jamaica Plain record store Deep Thoughts announces ‘quasi-temporary’ Cambridge location

Usually, we write about record stores closing. Today we get to write about one opening.

Jamaica Plain’s Deep Thoughts, which in a few short years has become one of the Boston area’s best and most beloved independent record stores, announced today plans for a “quasi-temporary” Cambridge location. The new shop will be at 89-A Norfolk St. in Central Square, in the space that used to house Tites Tropicals Market.

It will open December 1, just in time for the holiday shopping season, and be an extension of the existing Deep Thoughts, which was named Best Record Store in Boston Magazine’s 2015 Best Of Boston issue.

“We’ll be stocking the same kind of amazing, beguiling, enchanting and intoxicating records we have in the JP location, but there will be enough differences to keep folks coming back and forth between both stores,” the shop writes on Facebook. “More than anything, we’re just excited to be able to serve Cambridge the way we have Jamaica Plain. This is all happening very fast and we’re currently in the process of building stock so hit me up directly if you’re looking to get top dollar for your collection (none too small, nor too big).”

Just don’t call this a pop-up shop.

“I’m not a huge fan of the term ‘POP-UP’ shop, so let’s call this location a ‘QUASI-TEMPORARY’ experience.”

Either way, it’s a great addition to the area.

Here’s a Google street view look at the space from a few years ago.
