Mysterious power outage nixes Jack Russell’s Great White’s controversial return to New England

The return of Jack Russell’s Great White to New England — the band’s first performance in the region since the deadly 2003 Station Nightclub fire that killed 100 people and left many severely burned and injured — never happened. A power outage last night at Party In The Pasture at Mechanic Falls in Maine caused the event to be cut short just before Great White’s set.

According to local news reports, it’s “unclear” exactly why the power went out. But things got dark between 9 and 9:30 p.m., right as Russell and his band were set to headline the show, which also featured hair metal holdovers Steelheart and multiple local bands.

Earlier performances throughout the day at Party in the Pasture went off without a hitch, reportedly.

“We’re still not really sure here what caused the power outage,” reports WGME’s Courtney Highfield from the scene last night. “There wasn’t a bad storm that rolled through, we saw a little bit of lightning but all the sudden all the lights were out, the stage lights were gone, the lights that were keeping the field lit were out, and this was just before Great White was about to take the stage.”

The concert’s location, Harvest Hills Farm, was also the site of a deadly hayride accident last year. More from WGME in Maine:

MECHANIC FALLS (WGME) — The farm charged with manslaughter in connection to a deadly hayride crash last fall is hosting a concert, but it was cut short due to a power outage.

The concert’s main act was supposed to be Jack Russell’s Great White, but the power went out just before the band’s set. It would have been the band’s first concert back in New England since a fire broke out at one of their concerts in 2003, which killed 100 people.

The concert promoters were hoping the concert would help heal the community. Recently Harvest Hills, owned by Peter Bolduc, not only filed for bankruptcy, but was then charged with manslaughter in the hayride accident that killed Cassidy Charette. Since the announcement of the concert, both the promoters and Bolduc have been saying they want this event to promote healing.
