Already Heard: Jesse Lacey of Brand New forgets lyrics on stage in New Mexico, asks fan for help

People who listen to emo tend to memorize the lyrics of every single song from every single album from every single band. So imagine the embarrassment of Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey last week in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he forgot the lyrics to the Long Island band’s 2006 song “Millstone,” off The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.

Imagine forgetting your own lyrics in front of hundreds of people who have every word memorized? Lacey first gave it a try and attempted to play it off, but quickly knew he was busted. After fumbling a bit, he just straight up asked a fan of they had a lyric sheet on his or her phone.

He could have just asked the fan to sing it for him, as we’re sure that person has all this shit memorized.

“Do you have the lyrics on your phone there?” the singer asks, before admitting that a lyric book might be the latest addition to the Brand New stage setup. Check out video of the incident, which has a happy ending, below, via the NME, and get caught up with “Mene,” Brand New’s first new song in six years, via Stereogum.
