Cali Loves: Best Coast shake up some early-’90s power pop vibes in ‘Heaven Sent’

Back in February, Golden State obsessives Best Coast released the title track to new record California Nights, and it was pretty much what you’d expect from guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. Hazy guitars, memories of beach nights, and being so fucking happy to just be in California. It’s what all those Boston people who moved to Los Angeles right before this past winter are feeling right now. #BosAngeles is real.

But what’s also real the follow-up to that rather chilled-out track, the fiery guitar-rock number “Heaven Sent.” Music writer Annie Zaleski pretty much sums it up:

Letters to Cleo meets Husker Du? Plus reverb? Sign us up.

California Nights is out May 4, and Best Coast bring their sunny vibes to the Paradise Rock Club on June 12. The roof might blow off and land somewhere along the Green Line on Commonwealth Avenue when this joint is played.
