Patton the Conqueror: Faith No More announce new album ‘Sol Invictus’, due in May

Because a handful of singles are just never enough, Faith No More have announced detail of their new album. Sol Invictus, the follow-up to 1997’s Album of the Year, drops May 19 via Reclamation Recordings/Ipecac Recordings.

Faith No More bassist Billy Gould broke it all down in a recent Rolling Stone interview: “What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we’re doing reflects where we’ve gone since we made our last record as Faith No More. I think this kicks things up a notch. And I think there’s parts that are very powerful and there’s parts that have a lot of “space.” Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it’s always going to sound like us. It’s just what we do, that makes us feel good.”

As the presser notes, Sol Invictus was produced by Gould and recorded in the band’s Oakland, Calif. studio. It follows recent singles “Motherfucker” and “Superhero,” the latter of which will be released as a limited-edition 7-inch on March 17.

Celebrating all this newness, the Bay Area band will also spend a good deal of 2015 on the road, including a very-sold-out May 11 date at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Do617 is giving away a pair of tickets.
