Shadowpaid: This signed copy of Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ will cost you $15k


Thirty-five years ago this past October, Joy Division performed live at Newcastle’s City Hall, opening for the Buzzcocks. Earlier that year, on June 15, 1979, the Manchester post-punk band released their debut record, Unknown Pleasures, and sometime at the City Hall show in Northern England, all four members signed an original vinyl copy of the soon-to-be-legendary Factory Records release.

And now that record has surfaced on eBay — and it’ll cost you $15,000 to add it to your own private collection.

The seller, the California-based psychedelicwax, says the record is signed by all four members of Joy Division, including late frontman Ian Curtis, who would commit suicide less than eight months later. Bernard Sumner’s autograph is signed as “Bernard Albrecht,” the guitarist’s stage name at that point of his career.

The signed record allegedly comes from the private collection of British auctioneer Mark Stacey. Here is the item’s eBay description:

This Joy Division record is one of a kind and one like this has never been offered for sale! The record comes from the private collection of Mark Stacey. The signatures were acquired in person when Joy Division supported The Buzzcocks in Newcastle, on Thursday, October 4th, 1979.
