Homegrown Cheer: Listen to the 40-song Polk Records Holiday Compilation

There are all kinds of good reasons to bitch about the so-called “most wonderful time of the year”: the annual battle with the mob of other last-minute mall shoppers; non-alcoholic eggnog; repeatedly rushing to the vet because kitty keeps eating the tree decorations; the grandparents frothing at the mouth whenever they hear someone say “Happy Holidays”; and listening to Uncle Steve explain for the thousandth time that “they’re from a different generation” and we all need to pretend not to notice when they do stuff like that. I hate Uncle Steve, and I hope he chokes on the Newbury Comics gift card I got him.

But unlike the last 29 years I can account for, at least the music of Christmas 2014 doesn’t have to suck.

The nice folks at Polk Records did us all the service of curating this 40-song Holiday Compilation, featuring some of the best and brightest of the New England underground. And others.

Interested in snarky yet sincere original Christmas tunes? Would you prefer reverent rock covers of Christmas classics? Maybe you’re in the market for a Chanukah song that isn’t by Adam Sandler? Just want to hear something other than that fucking Perry Como album for the MILLIONTH FUCKING TIME GODDAMNIT MOM.

The Polk Records Holiday Compilation fulfils all of those particular holiday wishes! YAY! Plus it’s a free download!
