This Is A Call To The Bullpen: Foo Fighters, Mission of Burma to play Fenway Park in July

Just as we suspected late Sunday night, the Foo Fighters’ sonic highway will lead straight to Fenway Park this summer, as Dave Grohl and crew will perform live at the home of the Boston Red Sox on July 18 and 19.

A “Beat The Bots” box-office ticket on-sale begins this Saturday, and online general public on-sale starts December 4. No box office location has been listed for the two Boston shows.

But there’s even cooler news on the home front: Boston post-punk legends Mission of Burma open the first date, and the UK’s Royal Blood play the second.

These dates will further mark a stadium summer for the Foo Fighters, who also play RFK Stadium in Washington DC on July 4 and Chicago’s Wrigley Field on August 29. Their announcement today was a part of a massive North American tour — see below — which follows a string of stadium gigs in the United Kingdom.

Foo Fighters join James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt (August 6) on the ever-expanding Fenway Park concert calendar. Earlier this week a City of Boston Consumer Affairs and Licensing public hearing notice circulated online showing a Fenway Park group requesting live music permits for concerts on August 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 — so more Fenway shows could possibly be announced before the Red Sox throw their first pitch on April 13.

It’s also worth noting that our sister site Do617 already has tickets to give away for the Foo Fighters’ two-night Fenway showdown (July 18 / July 19).

Meanwhile, the band’s latest record Sonic Highways dropped November 10, and a music documentary series of the same name is currently airing on HBO.

More to come…
