Come As You Were: Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic share Nirvana stories on the Tonight Show

Our grandparents had Johnny Carson, our parents had Jay Leno, and now we have Jimmy Fallon. If there was ever a true moment of the passing of the Tonight Show torch, it was last night, as Fallon welcomed Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic on the eve of Nirvana’s Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction. It’s also a few days after the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s suicide, giving a somber tone to an otherwise celebratory achievement.

The duo were on-hand to relay old stories of Nirvana, but when Fallon first congratulated them on the Rock Hall nod, Novoselic provided some immediate perspective 30 seconds into the interview: “It’s also bittersweet because our friend Kurt has been gone for 20 years.”

In the video up top, Grohl and Novoselic talk about how Nirvana came together, how Grohl came into the fold, and their fast rise to stardom. Below, in the second segment, they discuss everything from playing with Paul McCartney to, well, more Nirvana stories.

It’s a must-watch.

Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame tonight alongside KISS, Hall & Oates, and others. Word on the street is that Joan Jett will be joining them for a live performance.
