Meloy Decoy: The Decemberists named as ‘surprise guest’ of May’s Boston Calling Music Festival

Portland, Oregon indie-folk band the Decemberists have been named as the special guest of the upcoming Boston Calling Music Festival. Colin Meloy’s crew were the final band to be named to May’s weekend fest at City Hall Plaza, and will perform on Saturday in the second headliner slot between Death Cab For Cutie and the Head And The Heart.

Rumors persisted since the initial lineup was announced in January that the surprise guest would be OutKast, but festival organizers publicly denied that claim. Others thought it would be the Replacements or the Stone Roses.

Joining the Decemberists, Head And The Heart, and Death Cab in performing on Saturday are Frank Turner, Jenny Lewis, the Neighbourhood, Warpaint, Walk Off The Earth, Maximo Park, and Magic Man.

Sunday’s slate features Modest Mouse, Brand New, Bastille, Tegan & Sara, Phosphorescent, Built To Spill, Kurt Vile & the Violators, the Districts, and Tigerman WHOA.

Jack Johnson, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and Cass McCombs open up Friday night.

In other Boston Calling news, limited single-day tickets will go on sale at noon today.
