No Complaints: Listen to looper Kawehi breathe new life into Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’

There’s a lot of weird shit floating around the internet today, from Christopher Walken dance compilations to odd police sketches of the Florida “Urinator.” Also they still haven’t found the plane. There’s a lot going on.

But here’s something a bit more soothing: a re-imagining of Nirvana’s 1993 classic “Heart-Shaped Box” by Honolulu-born, Kansas-based musician Kawehi.

After tacking songs from Michael Jackson and Nine Inch Nails, the experimental looper has taken her voice, keyboard and sequencer to the grunge staple. And it’s pretty mesmerizing. The song structure is there, but it has a different, almost hypnotic feel entirely.

She reports:

The Cover Series continues with a new series: Robot Heart! I’ll be covering songs that Kickstarter backers pledged for – starting with one of my favorite bands – Nirvana. I love everything about this song – despite rumors made by Courtney Love that this song is about her vajayjay.

Check out her Kickstarter here. She’s blown past her $3,000 goal and is approaching $30,000 on the final day of the campaign.

That’s a lot of heart-shaped boxes.
