American Authors’ messy performance on ‘Live with Kelly & Michael’ is really difficult to watch

Ok, so, right off the bat — we like American Authors, we spin their breakout hit “Best Day Of My Life” daily on Vanya Radio, and we’re proud that they hail from Berklee College of Music, who we’re partnering with at SXSW next week. But this performance from Live With Kelly & Michael this past Monday as part of some “Oscars Weekend” thing is one of the biggest trainwreck TV performances we’ve ever seen.

Oh my.

Clearly something is off — someone either fell out of time, there was a delay in the monitors, the backing tracks got fucked, pick your poison — and it’s obvious the young band can tell right away it’s a mess.

This is what happens when it all goes to hell.

To their credit, and in front of a few thousand people at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, American Authors powered through the song, finished it up, and GTFO. Applause still filled the room.

But damn.

Monday was definitely not their best day of their lives. Surely, better days are ahead.

The band’s debut record Oh What A Life is out now on Mercury/Island Records.
