Swedish Ish: Neneh Cherry and Robyn collaborate on new track ‘Out Of The Black’

Neneh Cherry released her first bit of new music in 18 years last month, and well, let’s just say it wasn’t very well-received. So what’s a Buffalo Stance girl to? Call yo’ girlfriend and get electro queen Robyn all up in the follow-up.

The Swedish singers appear together on new slow-burner electronic track “Out Of The Black,” which will also appear on Cherry’s new record Blank Project. It was produced by Four Tet and is out February 25 via Smalltown Supersound.

Cherry told Pitchfork: “She’s on a song called ‘Out of the Black,’ and it’s not the one that you would expect that we would have collaborated on. The obvious thing would be for Robyn and I to do a jumping-up-and-down-type song or something a bit more cheeky, but it’s quite melancholy. Robyn and I had been talking about doing something together for ages, and to me she’s just one of the most interesting young women out there. She really inspires me.”

Meanwhile, new music from Robyn is expected later this year.
