Year in ReView: Here is the worst song to come out of Boston in 2013

Earlier this week we highlighted the best 20 or so records to come out of Massachusetts in 2013, and really, the list could have been twice as long (we’re not a charity, but we do like a lot of stuff). The battle for the WORST song to come out of Massachusetts this year, however, was much easier to determine.

And yes, it came out of Boston. In fact, it’s Nothing But A T Thang.

Back in September, the MBTA — long before they announced 3am weekend service and became everyone’s BFF — unveiled “Safety Bounce,” a new hip-hop video that stressed caution and community while riding the T. And it’s just as embarrassing now as it was back then, and couldn’t be any worse if Priyanka Chopra covered it before Thursday Night Football broadcasts. Even Charlie should have cringed at this, and that dude has seen some shit.

We’re not sure if it had any positive impact or changed attitudes on our city’s public transit, but it has been viewed nearly 60,000 times and that Spanish message at the beginning reminds us of Jane’s Addiction’s “Stop.”

Of course, that’s not enough to prevent it from being the worst song to come out of Boston in 2013. And that’s no small accomplishment in a year when Karmin released a single.
