Egyptian general Abdel Fattah el-Sisi battling Miley Cyrus in Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ readers poll

There are just two days remaining in Time Magazine’s Person of the Year readers poll, and two unlikely foes are battling it out. Egyptian general Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has experienced a surge in online votes in the poll’s final week, nearly catching up to pop star Miley Cyrus, who had previously been taking a wrecking ball to the competition.

At press time, Cyrus had 19.5 percent of the vote, while the Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces crept up to 19.4 percent. In third place was Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, prime minister of Turkey, with 18.7 percent

But fear not — Time’s editors actually choose their annual Person of the Year. Last year’s winner was Barack Obama.

And you don’t have to be a subscriber to Time to vote; clearly some MyCy army is at work here. But, obviously, we support Miley as the Person of the Year, and think it’ll be the finest selection since “You” were picked in 2006. Think of all the Miley accomplishments in 2013:

— She inspired a new trend in letter writing.

— She released the Video of the Year in June for “We Can’t Stop.” Then did it again in September for “Wrecking Ball.”

— She has cats as backup singers.

— She taught the world to twerk in the Performance of the Year.

Here are the results as of press time. Voting ends December 4 at 11:59pm.
