Go hitchhiking in Iceland with Cloud Control in their video for ‘Scar’

Australian-born psych-pop quartet Cloud Control’s latest single “Scar” begins with the lyrics: “Have got a lump in my throat from letting you in my mind/There’s still a hope in my heart that somehow we’ll never die.” We hear this while frontman Alister Wright wanders the highways and mountains of Iceland, hitchhiking on what looks like the magical expanse that is Route 1/Ring Road. It’s a lonely trek far from the city streets of Reykjavik, and Wright’s mission feels more dreamlike than anything, as the song adds to the solitary atmosphere. There isn’t a tourist driving a garish red Yaris in sight.

The emotive “Scar” is as textured as Iceland’s rural terrain, and serves as the second offering from the band’s atmospheric new record Dream Cave, out September 17 on Votiv. Cloud Control just wrapped up a summer North American tour, and will hit their new base of the UK as well as the rest of Europe for a string of dates this fall with Local Natives.
