Disq share their gritty guitar chops on ‘Communication’ and ‘Parallel’

The two new tracks are admirably searing splinters straight from the art-rock core of the Wisconsin band, which plays ONCE this week

Disq do not want your obligatory applause.

The Wisconsin duo, comprised of two 19 year olds with a friendship forged from close-knit families, know that sometimes being two musicians under 21 means onlookers clap merely because you’re a couple of youngin’s. In retrospect, that formality has meant that Isaac deBroux-Slone and Raina Bock have worked that much harder to show their actual searing guitar chops.

“When we were on these bigger bills, you have to prove yourself in a special way when you’re young,” Bock tells Stereogum. “Even if it’s just OK, people will clap for you because you’re a kid, you know? People will pretend they like it. I had to prove it to myself.”

And prove it they do, especially on from their two 2019 tracks “Communication” and “Parallel,” both admirably gritty splinters straight from Disq’s art-rock core (via Saddle Creek). The pair play ONCE Somerville with Boston’s own Puppy Problems and Honey Cutt this Wednesday (March 20).

Clap when you goddamn mean it.
